John J. Ricotta, MD, FACS
Educated at Yale University and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Dr. John J. Ricotta is an internationally known surgeon with more than three decades of experience in treating patients with diseases of the arteries and veins (vascular disease). He has been certified and recertified in both vascular surgery and surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
During his impressive tenure as a vascular surgeon, Dr. Ricotta served as Chairman of Surgery at Stony Brook University Hospital in New York, and most recently, he was Chair of Surgery at Washington Hospital Center and Director of the Regional Vascular Program for MedStar in the Capitol area. Dr. Ricotta has stepped away from his administrative roles to devote his professional time to individualized patient care at Capitol Vascular Care, but he maintains privileges at both Washington Hospital Center and Georgetown University Hospital.
Currently, Dr. Ricotta is a Senior Director of the American Board of Surgery, and has served as past chairman of the Vascular Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery. Drawing on his extensive experience in all areas of vascular disease, he has trained more than 250 surgeons, including more than 40 vascular fellows. Dr. Ricotta has authored more than 250 articles and book chapters in all areas of vascular disease and has lectured all over the world on all aspects of vascular care. He has consistently been recognized as one of “America’s Top Doctors” by Castle Connolly for more than 20 years.
